Leading Green Plastics pioneer, Danish Plastix joins Oceanworks Marketplace
The partnership marks a commitment to achieve the long-term global goal of a plastic-free ocean Denmark (Dec. 18th 2018) —
Plastix is proud to announce that it has joined the Oceanworks Marketplace. The Oceanworks marketplace brings together collectors, processors of ocean plastic with manufacturers, brands and consumers eager to use their purchasing power to make a difference. Eight million metric tons of plastics enter the oceans annually; this refuse will take 400 years to break down, all the while wreaking havoc on marine ecosystems. Images of sea turtles entangled in plastic nets, seabirds feeding plastic to their young, and sea life everywhere starving with bellies bloated with plastic are a sad result of the world we’ve created and it represents a future we find unacceptable.
Recovered ocean plastics can be repurposed to make a wide range of products – everything from zippers and buttons, to fabric, carrying cases, credit cards, sunglasses, coolers and more. Oceansworks documents the chain of custody from “shore to store” ensuring authenticity and quality of all products produced by Marketplace members and marked OceanMade™
Plastix, processes and converts waste fishing nets, trawls and ropes into new raw plastics materials coined Green Plastics. In partnering with Oceanworks, brands and consumers eager to buy trusted sources of ocean plastics will be able to connect to Plastix.
– Through Oceanworks, I am proud to engage with ambitious and responsible brand owners who are taking the lead in integrating ocean plastics materials into their product portfolios, thereby
pushing the boundaries of responsible manufacturing as outlined in UN SDG No. 12 while demonstrating a circular economy model for the new plastics economy, says Hans Axel
Kristensen, CEO of Plastix.
– We’re excited to welcome Plastix to the Oceanworks’ Marketplace, says Rob Ianelli, CEO of Oceanworks Inc. As we continue to expand our capabilities and introduce new verified
materials, we see this type of collaboration as the keystone to a robust ocean-plastics industry. We are excited to continue to grow the Marketplace in support of our ultimate goal of cleaning up the oceans.
Plastix is looking forward to working with Oceanworks to ensure full transparency in both process and production, providing brands and consumers with a new source of verified ocean plastic that they can feel good about.
Oceanworks Inc, founded in 2016, aims to accelerate the removal of ocean plastic with the long-term goal of a plastic free ocean. The Oceanworks Marketplace was created to connect the business
community with verified sources of ocean plastic material collected around the world. The Marketplace includes collectors, processors, manufacturers, brands and other stakeholders who all
pledge to adhere to sourcing standards and use the OceansMade™ mark to showcase product origin and authenticity. Marketplace members aim to remove 2 million tons of ocean plastic and transform this material into sustainable products. For more information visit http://www.oceanworks.co/
